Everything right or nothing wrong? Regulatory fit effects in an e-learning context

چکیده

Abstract Feedback is a key factor in helping individuals to self-regulate their learning behavior. Informative feedback, as very basic form of feedback informing learners about the correctness answers, can be framed different ways emphasizing either what was correct or must improved. The regulatory focus theory describes strategic orientations towards goals, which may associated with effects informative types. A promotion orientation preference for approaching positive outcomes, while prevention avoiding negative ones. Applied context self-regulated e-learning environments, we predict that fit, defined congruence individuals’ and positively affects persistence performance. In two experiments, assessed experimentally varied samples university students preparing exams an tool ( N = 182, experiment 1; 118, 2) observed actual behaviors. Using operationalizations regulatory-framed found statistically significant fit on performance both although some remain insignificant. 2, additionally tested ease processing mechanism effects. This way, expand literature behavior provide evidence benefits adaptive environments. We discuss limitations, especially regarding stability well future directions research feedback.

If nothing goes wrong, is everything all right? Interpreting zero numerators.

When the procedure or outcome of concern is relatively uncommon, precise estimation, although desirable, may be difficult or impossible. Moreover, when the only data available come from a study in which none of the events of concern actually occurred—ie, a study in which a zero numerator is reported—making inferences seems to be particularly problematic. Because the occurrence of "no events" se...

Moral value transfer from regulatory fit: what feels right is right and what feels wrong is wrong.

People experience regulatory fit (E. T. Higgins, 2000) when the strategic manner of their goal pursuit suits their regulatory orientation, and this regulatory fit feels right. Fit violation feels wrong. Four studies tested the proposal that experiences of fit can transfer to moral evaluations. The authors examined transfer of feeling wrong from fit violation by having participants in a promotio...

Regulatory Fit 1 Running head: REGULATORY FIT AND LEARNING Differential Effects of Regulatory Fit on Category Learning

Motivation affects the degree to which people engage in tasks as well as the processes that they bring to bear. We explore the proposal that a fit between a person’s situationally-induced selfregulatory focus and the reward structure of the task that they are pursuing supports greater flexibility in processing than does a mismatch between regulatory focus and reward structure. In two experiment...

Regulatory Fit Effects in a Nonlinearly Separable Category Learning Task

The regulatory fit-cognitive flexibility hypothesis was tested in two experiments using a non-linearly separable category set, where cognitive flexibility was hypothesized to be advantageous for category learning. A promotion or a prevention focus was induced and subjects performed the task with either a gains or losses reward structure, creating two conditions of regulatory fit (promotion/gain...
